Community Update – July 2026
July 2, 2026
Dear Residents,
As we transition from summer into the cooler months of autumn, we’d like to provide you with the latest news, accomplishments, and initiatives happening throughout our community that will help keep Lakeridge Park a safe, attractive, and enjoyable community for everyone.
Completed Projects
Since the beginning of the year, the following projects have been completed:
- Derrickson Park enhanced through irrigation, cleanup and maintenance activities.
- Derrickson Place park area restoration completed.
- Thistles were removed throughout most of the community.
- Front entrance irrigation repairs completed.
- Bayview Court stub intersection area asphalt replacement completed.
- Michelle Crescent & Tomat Ave stairway improvements completed.
- Protective rock installation completed.
- Community pathway hedges trimmed.
- Michelle Crescent hillside vegetation trimmed.
- Tree of Heaven removal and treatment completed, but will be ongoing as it is an invasive species.
- Siberian Elm removal completed along Tomat Avenue.
- Grass cutting completed on vacant lots.
- Seasonal irrigation repairs completed throughout the community.
Street Lights
LED streetlight heads on Manuel Road were replaced with new energy-efficient LED fixtures equipped with photocell controls. The new photocells automatically turn the lights on at dusk and off at dawn, improving reliability and reducing unnecessary energy consumption. This upgrade enhances roadway visibility and safety for motorists and pedestrians while lowering maintenance requirements and contributing to a more efficient street lighting system.
Resident Speeding
Residents are reminded that addressing speeding concerns is a shared responsibility and that every driver plays an important role in keeping our roads safe. By obeying posted speed limits and staying attentive, residents can help reduce speeding incidents throughout the community. Safe driving habits not only protect pedestrians, cyclists, and other motorists but also contribute to a safer and more welcoming neighbourhood for everyone.
Parking Enforcement
Parking enforcement will continue throughout 2026 on both roadways and road rights-of-way. At present, tickets are being issued as a deterrent under lease covenants and WFN law. Residents must park within their driveways or lot lines. Vehicles that repeatedly violate parking rules and do not respond to enforcement actions will be subject to towing on the third ticket occurrence.
Short-Term Rentals
Residents are reminded that self-contained short-term rentals are not permitted within Lakeridge Park. Bed & Breakfast operations are permitted only where all applicable requirements are met, including:
- The owner occupies the principal residence.
- Guest accommodations consist of room rentals only.
- A valid Westbank First Nation Business Licence has been obtained.
- All required inspections have been completed.
These regulations help preserve the intended residential character of our community.
Several unauthorized short-term rentals have recently been identified through online booking platforms. Addressing these violations will continue to be a priority throughout 2026.
Potential violations may be reported to:
- James Carmichael, Property Manager
- Westbank First Nation Building Department
Thistle Control
Residents are reminded that controlling thistle growth on their private property, including areas in the road rights-of-way, is the responsibility of the property owner.
Thistle spreads rapidly if left unmanaged and negatively impacts neighbouring properties and the appearance of the community.
Recommended control methods include:
- Pulling or digging plants, including the root system.
- Regular monitoring and treatment of affected areas.
- Proper disposal of removed plant material before seed development.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming months, residents can expect continued work including:
- Seasonal tree hazard assessments & removal of dead trees where required.
- FireSmart vegetation management.
- Ongoing invasive species removal.
- Ongoing landscape maintenance.
- Continued parking enforcement.
- Community beautification initiatives.
- Blow outs of common area irrigation.
- Abel Street island irrigation and beautification.
- Temporary parking lot at bottom of Abel St. will be opening soon. A separate letter will be sent out to residents with instructions and expectations for use.
